At a school regional band competition, one of the top contenders was walking around with his jacket draped from his shoulders, arm sleeves hanging loose, like he was a world artist. Struck me as pretentious even at my Freshman age.

At a street fair, a classical guitarist performed snatches and delivered little lectures starting, "Did you see what I did there?" It was a large crowd standing in the street, all impressed. I was back at the edge and walked away from the self admiration.
