2. Free spay and neuter clinics are so important...

...a close friend of mine runs a volunteer small dog rescue and the main part of her work is assuring that dogs without families get the appropriate vaccines and medical care as well as refusing to adopt out any dogs that come to her until they have been neutered and fully recovered.

She has worked hard with volunteer grant-writers to get funds for the spay and neuter clinics, and she has built strong, positive relationships with for-profit veterinarian clinics to get them on board with giving reduced fees to encourage spaying for lower-income homes.

She has connected me to a local group of "catch and release" stray cat volunteers whom I volunteer with occasinally to collect feral cats in our area, get them medically healthy, spay them (with the help of wonderful local veterninarians who don't want us to let people know they do it this at a very low cost for us) and return them to their lives where we found them.
