I came out of a poor family, Dad was a city bus driver. Think a thin version of Ralph Kramden.

But pennies were a good fit for my budget, plus my best friend Dave down the street would trade with me for the ones missing from our folders.

From 1996 to 2004, give or take. I gave away most of the cards years ago; kept some in decks. I was short of money at the end of last year, so I went through those decks. I sold a ton of dual lands in January, along with a few Demonic Tutors (they go for $30 a pop!). I wound up getting about $4000. Made me sorry I gave away the other cards.

I have every Terry Pratchett Discworld book, but they aren't worth much.

I never collected anything as a kid. My family was large and chronically short on funds.

ponytail, black and white bathing suit. i used my Christmas money to buy outfits for her. I bought Simplicity patterns to make outfits for her. They even had tiny zippers. She never wore shoes because they would fall off. I had the house, car, and Ken. but he stayed mostly in the black vinyl carry case with the outfits. I played with her up until 6th grade. I let her sleep with me. Since I came from an abusive family , my parents said I was too old to be kissed good night and told I was loved. So Barbie did. In six or 7th grade , I came home and all my Barbie stuff was gone. It was trash day and she told me that she threw it away. I cried. Fast forward. I go to WalMart and they have the new Christmas Barbie the Mattel had recently started. I bought it. I was hooked. I had everyone. I watched QVC and HSN and every week I would treat myself to one. I had all the theme Barbies. Somehow I got mail about a the Barbie club where exclusives were sold. I then got into the Bob Mackie designer Barbies. The thing is I never took them out of the box. I had no plans of selling. I just wanted to keep them in good condition. They were all over the place. And cost me a good deal of money, I talked to my therapist about it and we agreed it went back to the abuse I suffered as a child. I took the Barbies to school and gave them to the teachers for their children and grandchildren and gave them to my students who wanted them. I kept 10==the remake of the original The Wizard of Oz series and the Makies. Sorry to share this with you. I have them in the attic. I haven't looked at them in years. If you have room keep them. My collection was because of the abuse.I suffered. I am very sorry for being a bummer. Enjoy them, Take them out and display them . Love, Debbie.

37. Old baby/childhood photos of my friends....

Oh I LOVE this discussion! So at some point in my 20’s which was during the 80’s, I got the BIG IDEA to gather baby photos of my friends. (I KNOW I am dating myself here…, but, well, ya know the old baby photos….)

I contacted loads of my friends MOMS and they got RIGHT INTO IT! And they sent them to me or brought them to me. Some were really small, some a little larger, but ALL were appreciated and HILARIOUS! PICTURE the proverbial “baby” pictures from back then.

I framed them and “tucked” them around my then apartment - - beside a plant, on a mantle next to a grouping of candles, hanging on a bathroom wall with other pics. Like….not TOO obvious, but there.

And then LET THE FUN BEGIN! As gatherings would happen, the “inevitable” would happen. You can kinda imagine.

“Wait. Wait. That’s ME!! That’s ME! Where in the hell did you get that?” Etc.

OMG - - it was truly SO MUCH FUN and all of my friends MOMS in particular LOVED it!!

Pure magic. Thanks so MUCH for this discussion - - great flashback for me!

I started collecting comic books again a few years ago. A few years ago, I sold my 500+ comic book collection from my teen years (1965-1971, mostly, 12 and 15 cent an issue, mostly) for almost 3400 dollars. Best investment I ever made, although I didn't buy them as an investment.

I was stationed in England in the mid-80s and fell in love with David Winter Cottages and I kept collecting them over the next 15 years. I have about 50 cottages of various sizes sitting on top of my entertainment system with a couple of them signed by David Winter himself. My prized piece is the 2000 Millennium at Horseshoe Bay, below, of which only 2,000 were made and was signed by David Winter when he visited Sacramento in the late 90s.

Then there's a joke amongst yarn crafters (crochet, knitting) about "collecting yarn" but never actually knitting, or crocheting.

I actually do crochet and knit but I'm slowish. And art making comes first often, then jewelry making.

So I guess you could say I also "collect" art supplies! 🎨 😄

68. YW. Batik fabric, weaving and polymer clay! Nice!...
Sun Jun 8, 2025, 11:20 PM

I'm going to try a very modest form of weaving at some point. Make a frame out of stretchers ? 10" x 14" inches or so. Cut shallow grooves for the ?weft. Basically to do a few wall decorations. Get some plain, fancy yarns, and ribbons. My sis did a class small piece about the dimensions I'm thinking of, and I got inspired.

I love polymer clay. Played around w it a bit, but had no way to bake it. Made some simple cane. I've seen incredibly complicated pieces (little bowls) with gorgeous abstract, or flowers, landscapes cane, etc.

I think I'll you tube up some vids. Haven't watched that stuff in a long time.

My yarn craft is too slow to ever make, donate items. Also doing something that repetitive like even a lap blanket would drive me batty with boredom!

I tend to stick with these three: drawing (mostly digital the past 2+ yrs must get back to physical mediums), jewelry making, land yarn craft. And some painting again. I do what I really like, and also try new things within these 3 creative outlets.
I have a BFA.
