(851 posts)I always ordered popcorn with no butter and a soda. I saw The Naked Gun this afternoon the the local theater and of course I ordered a large popcorn with no butter and a large soda.
As a kid, sometimes I'd get junior Mints, Jujube candy, or Red Hots.

(3,968 posts)Movies were a rare treat and I liked to enjoy it.
One time I had the large heavily salted popcorn and when I got home we had just harvested a watermelon. It was great and I ate a lot of it. The salt and the water produced an unexpected response though. In an hour my intestines were crystal clear.

(3,974 posts)and we could buy tons of candy real cheap. We would buy Atomic Fire Balls, M & Ms, Jaw Breakers, Red Hots, Neccos, Candy Cigarettes, Taffy, Candy Necklaces and these really disgusting flavored wax things that looked like lips and buck teeth. The owner of the shop was always in a bad mood. Maybe he just didn't have the patience to watch us count out our nickels and dimes when it was time to pay. The theater people never seemed to mind having us bring in our own food. Of course, this was during the summer when the theater had FREE matinees for kids one day a week. The movies were usually Tarzan or Three Stooges.Kids would be sitting in the aisles because they let everyone in even after the seats were all taken. It was a madhouse with kids running up and down the aisles and popcorn getting thrown from the balcony. One time they actually stopped the movie and the theater owner came out and said they wouldn't resume the movie until everyone sat down and behaved. LOL Thanks, Deb, for letting me reminisce about a funny childhood memory!

(13,373 posts)That changed when I was living in the dorm and going to see movies at the Student Union. My roommate was a sax player, and they let you carry your instrument into the theater.
We figured out that we could get an entire six pack of 16 oz. cans of beer into a hard plastic tenor saxophone case.

(667 posts)We went to the drive-in sometimes, because my father would simply pay for the carload. Then, we'd have a cooler full of water or Kool-Aid, and snacks from home. I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the first movie I saw in a theater was Star Wars (summer of '77).

(6,499 posts)heck if I can remember. Just knew I hated licorice, jellied stuff, snocaps, those little bean shaped candies that came in colours (wasn't that licorice too? don't recall) liked buttered popcorn with that orange looking salt... and a cola of course.

(401 posts)and fine grain yellow salt mixture. A bag was a dime or a box was 15 cents. If I decided to get candy instead I got Flicks that were chocolate drops that came in the bright colored foil tubes. They were a dime. Sometimes I got Jujyfruits or Dots. Those were a nickel from the candy machine. The movie cost was a quarter. What great memories! Thanks, Deb!😊🩷

(13,617 posts)And a large water. There used to be a kiosk in a nearby mall that sold popcorn and cotton candy, etc. I would frequently go there to get the large popcorn drenched in butter so I didn't have to go to the theater to buy it, which I also do on occasion without seeing a movie. After a while I had to stop because on my blood tests the cholesterol reading was ski high. I am an absolute fanatic about popcorn. It's nature's most perfect, and explosive, food.

(23,809 posts)I do love seeing a movie especially science fiction, occasional action in the past, a few fantasy films, and animation (Pixar in particular), on "The Big Screen". I really also liked "Dave", "The Amercan President", the one where the two Presidents go on the run.
I'm looking foward in '26 to Andy Weir's Hail Mary _____ ?(Project). I read the book. 👍
