I did one for the first time in about a decade today and was pleasantly surprised.

(870 posts)First as a baseline several years ago and I gave a copy to my primary care doctor as a baseline. She had me retake it in the office as its supposed to be a timed test. I dont see that in the instructions, but what do I know? Since Ive turned 65, the doc has me draw the clock with hands at 11:10 and memorize three words as part of the annual Medicare wellness checkup. Before I turned 65, Id retake the SAGE test every few years.
A few years ago my siblings and I were worried about our moms cognitive decline and we each took one as group family activity so she wouldnt think we were singling her out. We scored each others tests. She had mixed results. Now shell turn 95 next month and the decline is accelerating. She still knows who we are but her short term memory is pretty bad. That being said, if I live that long, Id be happy to have the health she does.
It was developed The Ohio State University. There are 4 versions that all have the same components. The link to version 1 is below. The answers are not available to the public (I swear they used to be!) but if you are of sound mind they are fairly obvious.

(288,846 posts)No dementia on the maternal side but on the paternal side, the aunt who died at 95 didnt even know her children and the one who reached 89 was getting there.

(74,339 posts)He said after the first 5 seconds, he knows if he should be concerned.
If he is concerned he'd do the screening, but he thinks it silly at my age, especially since there is no baseline & no family history of senility.

It said my IQ was 160 something. I decided those test were rigged. Anyone who has read a lot of books and who knew the references could get a high score. I did work in Reference in the college library for 4 years.
