I think the reason was a combination of my old age, colloquialisms, and accents.

Started watching it but initially gave up. It was more brutal than the cozy mysteries I usually enjoy and found Mathew Goode's character to be a bit too much of an a** hole, but then my SIL highly recommended it so I gave it another try.

Got drawn in and couldn't stop. Glad to see there'll be another season.

I watched 3 or 4 episodes with my daughter yesterday and the rest of season 1 after she left for home. She had already seen most of the first season. It was nice of her to sit through episodes she's already seen with me.

It might be that I saw the films first though. I’ll definitely keep watching the series if there’s more seasons.
