Great Blue Heron - Central Park, NYC

Great Blue Heron - These herons have a wingspan of 6 feet and can fly at speeds of 20 to 30 MPH. Seen at Bow Bridge. After flying across the Lake, s/he landed on a dirt path and flew directly at me, looking rather funny and awkward in the last picture.

with their long necks and legs has always made me think of pterosaurs. They are wonderful birds.

the difference between a heron and a crane is the neck at wing. a crane would be extending his neck, while this heron folds his close.
