I thought the best was up until about 2012. The scenes were shot in original locales. Then they started with studio takes inside police HQ. I'm guessing to save money. There have been a lot of sidekicks. Loved Troy and Ben. Can't get with Sykes.

Married, for one thing. He isn't as bland in the novels. He is the only bagman in the books so far.
There are several points of view in the novels, and expanded insights into the characters. Overall, except for making Troy more likable, the show's depiction of the characters has remained true to the novel.

Loved Troy and Ben too. Not as keen on it after Tom retired, but still enjoyable.

My daughter found a season I hadn't watched on a free streaming service. I watched some in July, and have a few more to enjoy.
I liked Tom and Joyce better, too. Tom has an ego but Joyce wasn't dumbed down to make him look good.

They had their subtle running humor over Joyce being a terrible cook and Tom couldn’t fix anything around the house. Troy was a terrible driver. and Jones often got stuck doing undesirable tasks. The more recent Barnabys don’t seem to have that humor about them, and John Barnaby’s assistants don’t, either.

I enjoy watching the episodes to see actors from one espisode show up in another. The actor who plays John Barnaby was the horny gardner in season 4, Garden of Death.
I looked it up, now I want to watch all of them again.

If you don't know the actor's name, you can look for All Creatures, find him, click on his name and see all of his work.

In the 2020 release of All Creatures Great and Small. He played James Oswood and Jeremy Thacker in MM.

I like IMDB a lot. Been around since the 90s.

Mr. Diamond is always asking me, “Who is that actor” when we watch an older show with someone in it who looks familiar. Samuel West! That’s it! There was also a woman in an old MM episode we both recognized but her name is not in that article i linked either. I’m trying to wrack my brain over who it was ….

We are both Law & Order fans and do the same thing there. We just watched an episode from Season 2 which had William H. Macy in it.
