And I no longer recognize HALF at least of the young couples and fancy ladies who go to ANY of the award shows.

I might have heard the name, not sure. But I had no idea who he was or why his death was significant.

If it happened in the last 20 years, I've probably not any awareness. I can't identify most pop music. I know I've heard them, but no idea who wrote/sang it. Sports? lost touch. TV? No TV for 17 years. Haven't missed a sitcom.

But I do remember Monk, American Experience, Roadshow.

Jerry Garcia? I thought he was the ice cream guy.

I’m blissfully unaware of a great deal of pop culture. And I don’t regret it at all.

That’s mind boggling.

They even named an ice cream flavor after the guy!

Golfers, coaches. football. I never followed any of it. I am familiar with most musicians 60s to 80s.

to come home so I could tell her. Her response: "He was one of the Beatles, wasn't he?"

This made it a compound trauma.

Don't follow celebrities and sports figures. Never heard of Charlie Kirk before he died as well.

Like the...Karshians? Kardassians (aren't they an alien race on Star Trek)? The only celebrities I am currently aware of right now are the voice actors and singers of Kpop Demon Hunters, and only because that has become one of my favorite movies.
