How much do you have to be worth to be in the top x% of households? I wondered. I decided to ask Duck-Duck-Go.

After all, Duck-Duck-Go, unlike other search sites, is not out to steal your personal information to enrich the net worth of the richest.

how much do you have to be worth to be in the top 1% of US households?

This figure represents the minimum net worth needed to be considered part of the wealthiest segment of the population in the United States.

Okay.
how much do you have to be worth to be in the top 5% of US households?

Well, what about the top 4%?
how much do you have to be worth to be in the top 4% of US households?

Net Worth Requirements for Top 4% of U.S. Households

To be classified in the top 4% of U.S. households, your net worth must meet a specific threshold.

Percentile Minimum Net Worth
Top 4% $1.1 million

This means that a household needs to have a net worth of at least $1.1 million to be considered part of the top 4% in terms of wealth in the United States.

Wow! I can't be in the top 5% until I read $2.5M but can be in the top 4% with only $1.1M!

I'll go for the top 4%. It's easier to reach and is a snootier level to reach!

So much for online answers.

On the other hand, checking a number of web sites, almost all looked at income requirements, not net worth and many of them were more interested in selling me something than giving me answers. I guess the terms "net worth" and "top percent" got them overexcited.
