Bought a ton of LP records a week ago at a sale.
There was a huge collect of dads records. $1 for each or 20 cents each if you buy more than 5. I ended up with about 50 really good ones. Took me over an hour to go thru em.
The vinyl looked great, few if any scratches, just some finger prints. The cover were from excellent to terrible. The big problem is the mildew smell.
Put about 10 in a big plastic bag and dumped in a whole box of baking soda. Wish me luck and pass along any thing else that might save them
Thank you.

(36,145 posts)there were so many different ways I couldn't pick. I need some trusted experiences.
If I just sell 5 of them for $2 each, I've paid for all of them plus the 2 boxes of baking soda. I'm going to give it a week and then take a whiff.

(36,145 posts)lots of books to try too.
I've done books out in the sun and it works pretty good. Takes a long time and have to watch the weather and bring em in at night.

(1,178 posts)Mildew was a issue with a large score of LP's last year.
Also I set them in a old wire dish rack at the same time to dry.
10 or so at a time with 5 or six days dry time between groups.
Seemed to work. No recurrence of mold.

(1,178 posts)Clorox was the brand I used. Pretty weak solution.

(36,145 posts)I won't use the used stuff. Im cheap, but not that cheap.
Ive got a bunch that wasn't clumping, so I'll try that. Might try getting that started tomorrow. Will be able to sniff and compare.

(52,004 posts)Don't leave it too long on the labels. Vinegar kills mildew. Period. But they still have to dry.
multigraincracker
(36,145 posts)have give that a try.
Thanks
