Videnovich Farms creates homespun wool from our small flock of mash-up mixed-breed sheep in natural shades of black, brown, and white. Our flock is sheared every spring and we're finding a backlog of fleece in need of carding and washing at a processing mill. Several larger mills we have used in the past no longer offer these services. There are smaller mills than can clean our wool for us but at a price up to 3 times higher.
Every year produces a different "vintage" of color, feel, and quantity. This yarn order may contain a blend of the best fleece from several different years of shearing taken from our storage barn.
By pre-ordering yarn you will ensure that our small family farm can have the revenue in advance to pay these local smaller mills - ensuring their revenue in order to continue providing this vital service to fiber farmers for many years. These advance yarn sales will also ensure our farm has the funds to help feed our sheep flock, make repairs to their shelter and fencing, maintain the farm, as well as contribute towards supporting your local sheep farmer's living expenses.

Your order will include three (3) 150-yard double-ply sport-weight skeins in an un-dyed shade of grey that is a blend of the best fleece produced by the flock. The photo above includes approximate colors for your finished order. Each year the color and texture of the fleece will vary and the final blended fibers will reflect the organic nature of how naturally colored wool is produced.

All the wool will be spun by hand in the farm's atelier on a spinning wheel. The yarn is durable and good for making winter sweaters, mittens, hats, socks or other winter garments. Garments made with this yarn will last for years and years.

Purchasing a Videnovich Farms yarn CSA ("Community Supported Agriculture&quot yarn order in advance helps us run the farm. Established in 1962 by my parents I continue our Balkan farming traditions not only in the textile arts but also in food production. These methods are time-consuming and not as profitable as most modern commercial farming methods due to the amount of attention and labor involved.
The best way to support small farms is to buy our products so that we can invest and grow our business.

Suggested needle size: 3 to 7 US, 3.25-4.5 MM
Hand-spun yarns may have variations and imperfections so wpi and needle sizes are approximate - my new production spinning wheel spins a finer/ thinner yarn than my previous production wheel.
