There have been several good recent examples in this forum.

"Nashville tuning"...is an alternate tuning where the octave strings from a 12-string set are used to replace the top four (lowest) strings on a 6-string guitar.

IIRC, on "Wild Horses", the six-string guitar is Nashville-tuned. I forget who's playing it. Keith Richards is playing the 12-string, normally tuned. The guitars are hard-panned, which gives a really huge guitar sound. The six-string is panned left, and the 12-string is on the right.
