The Love Boat

When it was originally on TV, I worked nights and since it was in the pre-VCR days, I never saw it. Now I watch it every Sunday on METV. Boy, is it ever cheesy but I still watch it. I guess you could call it my "guilty pleasure." I like cruises so I like that it takes place on a ship. I like seeing old-time stars near the end of their careers. I like to see current stars near the beginning of their careers before they made it big. It amuses me that on a weekend cruise, people meet and decide to get married after knowing each other for half an hour.

However, I don't like the character of Julie at all. I have calmed down a bit in my dislike of her; I no longer compare her to the Anti-Christ. I guess I've mellowed out somewhat in my old age. And I have to admit, although I hate to, that the show went downhill after she left. It went from cheesy to absolutely ridiculous.

I was never crazy about Vicki either. She was a cute kid, but she got on my nerves. Such a goody two-shoes. I think they were trying to mold her into a mini-Julie.

When it was a new show, I thought it was too ridiculous to spend my time on. But, like you, I now enjoy seeing actors we never see anymore, and in roles unlike they were known for.

It was the 70’s - Match Game and Hollywood Squares - people famous for being famous. Love Boat had to be cheap TV with cruise line PR.

Fred Grundy was a Congressman for 4 terms over two districts in Iowa. Harvard grad.

I enjoy the Sunday night lineup. It's like hanging out with old friends.
