Related: About this forumStarTrek Strange New Worlds, Season 3 Episode 7...I love StarTrek but found this latest episode unwatchable...
It is so bad, trying to be some kind of documentary about the characters and their lives...Just bad, geez...my 2 cents...

And if I want some real Trek, I just go back to season 2 of the original series, lol.

(6,035 posts)It was an interesting choice stylistically, to be sure. It did drag at times. The 'documentary' camera angles seemed so invasive and were a bit distracting. The ending was somewhat emotional, and a nice touch. I especially liked that it didn't contain any of the usual high school dating shenanigans that seem to dominate the show of late.
What made the original 1966-2005 Star Trek series great was that they were about intelligent, competent people working together to solve problems. There was no need for musicals, muppets, wise-cracking ensigns or any of the gimmicks this show seems to thrive on. They do get it right sometimes, as with this episode, but not consistently. I had high hopes for this show, especially after the wholly unwatchable Discovery and the dreck that was the first two seasons of Picard. It's been hit or miss throughout. It's like they can't make up their minds about what this show is.

(6,035 posts)Waking through the DVD section at Walmart or wherever I saw it on sale, and eager to see new Star Trek and not having CBS All Access /Paramount+, I saw it as my chance to watch it. By the fifth or sixth episode, though, I gave up and put it away. A year or so went by when I stumbled across it and thought that maybe I hadn't given it a fair chance, so I started watching again. I made it to about the same point and reached the conclusion that I didn't care about any of these people or what happened to them, so I was wasting my time.
Picard was a continuation of TNG, so I was in from the start and gave it a longer "leash," but man, did it suck. Finally, by season three, they got their shit together just in time to at least end it properly.
What will be Strange New Worlds' ultimate fate remains to be seen, but I am not optimistic.

(2,169 posts)I think this episode delves into some very fundamental issues that I think are interesting and compelling. Asks questions about Star Fleet. The kind of questions we should have been asking continuously about our government and our military. The kinds of questions the Israelis should have asked about their government and their IDF.
I like this episode and think the writers have done an excellent job of handling some very difficult issues.
