(30,043 posts)I have rewatched The Wire a few times since it first aired on HBO. I always caught something new that I missed which is easy to do with the slow developing plot.
Breaking Bad first time watching was on the edge of my seat the whole time but it doesn't have much rewatch value.
The show I probably watched the most is probably Better Call Saul. I actually like it better than Breaking Bad but a lot of those shows I also notice flaws if I rewatch a show too many times.
As far as these days I'm not sure anymore. I liked Legends that I recently saw Netflix. That show is kinda like The Wire as in it is a show about a high end drug trafficking investigation but in Britain.

(14,964 posts)Regarding Breaking Bad..... the little details emerge with binging....like the color schemes for characters...so many fine details...
Snip from Google:
Visual & Scene Details Symbolic Color Coding:
The creators meticulously assigned distinct color palettes to the characters. Walter begins in bland beige, Skyler wears blue, Jesse is associated with yellow, Marie obsessively wears purple, and Hank wears orange.
The Swimming Pool:
The White family pool serves as an ongoing motif of decay and impending doom, holding objects like a dirty Band-Aid, a burned teddy bear, and acting as the site of Skyler's symbolic breakdown."Felina" Anagram: The title of the series finale isn't just a nod to Marty Robbins's song "El Paso"; its also an anagram for "finale" and references the chemical elements Iron ((Fe)), Lithium ((Li)), and Sodium ((Na)).
I need to binge the Wire....just saying...

(1,552 posts)...and I'd put "Mad Men" and "Better Call Saul" in the next slots.
One of the things about "The Wire", beyond the writing, the story, and the acting overall, is the number of non-actors who appeared in the series who gave such great performances. The cast members who played Prop Joe, Snoop, and The Deacon, and others like Method Man, Steve Earle, and the real Jay Landsman were as indelible as any of the pros in the cast.

(3,253 posts)I liked Chris Noth and I liked Jeff Goldblum but I LOVED Vincent D'Onofrio. I wish they'd bring that one back.
And Monk was great too. What a hoot! All those episodes and it never got tired or old. That's a real accomplishment for any kind of series. And Tony Shalhoub was so good. I was sorry when it ended.
LoisB
(13,611 posts)favorite. Nobody could have played Monk better than Tony Shaloub; although I liked Sharona better than Natalie.
MIButterfly
(3,253 posts)so I had to go back and catch Sharona in reruns. I liked them both and I'm glad the writers made them so different from each other. I also like that they brought Sharona back at the end. And who would've thought she would end up with Disher after all the animosity between them all those years? I sure didn't see that coming!
Tony Shalhoub was perfect as Monk. The whole cast was excellent. Great show.

(14,964 posts)I'm glad we can binge older shows via Apps.... but there just is not any substantial news shows essentially..... I'm sure there are great stories to tell....corporate TV is all about control the message now and cut cost...drive thru at McDonalds stuff...and they want us to pay for it....
These upcoming new buyouts like HBO/ Time Warner/ Discovery to Paramount....frightening future I believe...

(206 posts)Captured by the very first episode. Great cast. Even better stories.
The Andy Griffith Show. Don Knotts was a comic genius. And really, are there better characters than
Ernest T. Bass, the Darlings, and Otis Campbell? And ever since I was a teenager I wondered about Andy and Helen Crump. Was she as vanilla as she seemed?
MIButterfly
(3,253 posts)I loved Pembleton; who didn't? Andre Braugher was such a phenomenal actor. But my favorites were Munch and Meldrick. The only character I didn't really like was the medical examiner played by Michelle Forbes. The show had such good stories and such a talented cast. I thought the last couple years, when a lot of the main cast left, were not as good as the earlier ones. But all in all, a great series.
Barney Fife! What a hoot! He thought he was so cool and he really wasn't. I dont think anybody on earth could have played him as well as Don Knotts did.

(30,043 posts)I thought about mentioning The Americans as it is one of top 10 favorite shows.
I used to research intelligence agencies, it is interesting if you're into real conspiracy theories but the excerpt posted below is what the show is loosely based on.
Wikipedia:
Illegals Program
The Illegals Program (so named by the United States Department of Justice) was a network of Russian sleeper agents under unofficial cover. An investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) culminated in the arrest of ten agents on June 27, 2010, and a prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States on July 9, 2010.[1]
The arrested spies were Russian nationals who had been planted in the US by the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (known by its Russian abbreviation, SVR), most of them using false identities.[2] Posing as ordinary American citizens, they tried to build contacts with academics, industrialists, and policymakers to gain access to intelligence. They were the target of a multi-year investigation by the FBI. The investigation, called Operation Ghost Stories, culminated at the end of June 2010 with the arrest of ten people in the US and an eleventh in Cyprus.[2] The ten sleeper agents were charged with "carrying out long-term, 'deep-cover' assignments in the United States on behalf of the Russian Federation."[3][4][5]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Illegals_Program
One thing unrealistic about the show is those that are on unofficial cover assignments rarely do risky missions because they can be arrested. They usually use those with official cover or diplomatic immunity for the risky ones.
