Russellville teacher fired over social media post after Charlie Kirk's death

After a nearly 4-hour hearing, the Russellville School District Board of Education voted to terminate Russellville High School science teacher Chance Duncan 6-1, effective immediately.

A packed school board meeting flowed into the cafeteria during the hearing, which included witnesses from both the district and those who spoke in favor of Duncan.

The post that Duncan admitted to posting is a quote by Clarence Darrow: “I never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.” Just hours after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

The district says that Duncan violated the District’s licensed personnel social networking and ethics policy.

is firing a science teacher for making such an innocuous post? So now one must always show full reverence for Horst Wessel Charlie Kirk?

4. It's not easy to fire teachers in Arkansas, at least not in a way that it sticks, in routine cases.

I would expect a federal judge in Arkansas to take a dim view of firing a teacher for personal communication.
