SF: Mandelman still backs Yekutiel following sexual assault claim
Gay San Francisco Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman is standing by embattled District 8 supervisorial candidate Emanuel Manny Yekutiel after an allegation of sexual assault, which he denies. Mandelman, the current D8 supervisor, is termed out of office and has endorsed Yekutiel to succeed him.
The accusation that in early 2020 Brad Joseph Chapin, a city gardener and one-time political activist, was groped by Yekutiel at a party and that Yekutiel attempted to penetrate him with his finger, was first reported in the San Francisco Standard June 30, and subsequently with additional details in the San Francisco Chronicle on July 6.
The race to represent the Castro, Noe Valley, and Diamond Heights on the Board of Supervisors is one of the most high-profile in the city. Mandelman was first elected in 2018.
Mandelman told the Bay Area Reporter in a July 7 phone interview that Yekutiel still has his support.
