LGBTQ+ Victory Fund slow to endorse in CA

During the 2024 midterm election cycle, as of July 5 that year, the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund had endorsed more than 290 out people seeking public office. The national group works to elect LGBTQ candidates across the U.S.

This year, as of July 7, Victory Fund has endorsed 267 candidates running for election across the country. Of those, just 29 are seeking election in California.

Three of those were gay Bay Area candidates who ran unopposed in the Golden State’s June 2 primary and secured their reelection. They were Sonoma County Superintendent of Schools Aime Carter, Contra Costa County Supervisor Ken Carlson, and San Jose City Councilmember Anthony Tordillos.

Two were gay San Francisco candidates who won their primary races and will appear on the November 3 general election ballot. Gay Democratic state Senator Scott Wiener took first place in his race for the city’s U.S. House seat and is now running against District 1 Supervisor Connie Chan to succeed retiring Congressmember Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), who is backing Chan in the race.
