Our town is devastated

I live in a small town in Colorado--about 1500 people. Last night a fire burned down the main shopping center in town. Over twenty businesses were destroyed. My family is okay, but a lot of my friends lost their businesses and jobs. This is gonna take a long time to come back from.

There are lots of ways to help if you can, some listed in the articles.

My heart hurts for my friends. Fortunately the grocery store and the carousel weren't damaged--except for smoke.

Devastated is the right term. Sounds like probably half of town burned. I have lived in small towns that size most of my life and I am sure this is a really hard hit for everyone there. Of course, some more than others.

About 23 businesses burned. Among them...my guitar teacher's shop, one of our favorite brewpubs, the only (excellent) Mexican food place in town, my husband's doctor's office, and the sheriff substation. That's just a few.

I think I remember a gas station which emphasizes that it is a pro smoking place inside and the smell of cigarette smoke permeated the place when I went in to buy a drink for the road.

I live right next to Altadena which was destroyed by the Eaton fire in January. It didn’t reach my house but I have friends that lost everything. The are still trying to rebuild their lives.

Nederland is such a lovely place. We donated first thing this morning. So grateful there was no loss of life

All help is appreciated. The town is rallying, but it will take some time. It feels like from now on it will be "before the fire" and "after the fire".
