21 cities, towns in Connecticut holding primary elections Tuesday: Here's what to know

HARTFORD, Conn. (WRNH) — Six days of early voting in the led up to municipal primary elections yielded relatively low voter turnout, Connecticut’s chief elections official said.

7,000 ballots were cast across the 21 communities that are holding contested primaries for local offices, according to Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas.

Tuesday will mark Election Day in Connecticut, where primary elections are generally considered “closed” elections. This means that only registered members of a political party are eligible to vote in their party’s primary.

To vote in a Democratic primary, voters must be a registered Democrat. To vote in a Republican primary, voters must be a registered Republican.
