Washington, D.C., Council member Janeese Lewis George (D), a democratic socialist, announced Monday that shes launching a bid to succeed Mayor Muriel Bowser (D), who announced last week she wouldnt be running for another term.
Lewis George, whos in her second term representing the citys 4th Ward, said in a statement announcing her launch that too many residents still feel squeezed financially, from unaffordable housing to childcare, and feel unsafe in their neighborhoods.
Residents face uneven access to opportunity and a city government that on its best days feels unresponsive, and on its worst, is leaving residents out in the cold all because leaders have chosen to prioritize the needs of the well-connected over us. Thats wrong, its not the DC we should be and thats why Im running for Mayor, she said.
I will work with anyone to improve the lives of people here at home, and I will stand up to anyone who gets in our way, she added.

These labels matter a lot for people that only understand simple concepts.
Since the Scandinavian countries have, for the most part, shown that Social Democracy works, why not keep that label?

(2,745 posts)Youre right about labels for the Boomers. My millennial children arent brainwashed by the word socialism like we were. For boomers socialism equals communism, not for them though.
