Friend -
We all like celebrating birthdays, but here's hoping this is the last one ALEC ever gets. Next week, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is celebrating their 40th Birthday in Chicago. It's time to give them a present they won't soon forget!
Please join us for a screening of "The United States of ALEC" at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. This new documentary, narrated by Bill Moyers, examines how corporations and state legislators collude to write laws and remake America to their benefit. Afterwards, we'll host a panel to discuss the film and examine ALEC's role in pushing corporate priorities in state houses across the country.
The event is free, so just RSVP to let us know if you can make it.
The following day is when we we'll wish them a very "unhappy" birthday. At noon on Thursday, we'll gather outside the ALEC Conference at the ritzy Palmer House hotel in downtown Chicago to protest and push back.
For years, ALEC has brough together state politicians to push their dangerous agenda that rewards greedy CEOs at the expense of middle class families and our public schools, and puts our safety at risk. When greedy corporations make the rules and stack the deck in their favor, our community suffers.
Can we count on you to be there to give ALEC a birthday present they'll never forget?
