One of the world's largest salt deposits lies beneath the Great Lakes region, specifically within the Michigan Basin. The Goderich salt mine beneath Lake Huron is the world's largest, extending roughly 7 square kilometers. This massive, ancient sedimentary deposit runs under Lake Huron, Lake Erie, and Michigan, supplying vast amounts of road salt
