Polk County unveils new voter-friendly election office

DES MOINES, Iowa — A new election office offering a larger and more accessible space for Polk County voters is now open.

County leaders held a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house for the new space, located at the River Place on Euclid Avenue, last week. The building was already owned by the county, also housing the Polk County Veterans Affairs Department and an Iowa DOT Driver's License Service Center.

Polk County Supervisor Matt McCoy said the new office has up to 40 in-person voting stations, up from 12 at the previous downtown location.

McCoy added that the new site offers a large parking lot and can be accessed via both DART and a bike trail that connects to the building. It also includes a fireproof room for ballot security.
