Rose-Gillis tops Select Board ticket as Murphy also wins re-election
READING - The towns citizenry during municipal elections on Tuesday swept Linden Street resident Karen Rose-Gillis into the Select Board seat vacated by veteran member Mark Dockser while returning incumbent Melissa Murphy to the board for what will be her first three-year term.
In an election that drew roughly 21 percent of the towns electorate to the voting booth, Rose-Gillis surprisingly topped the ticket in the four-way race for a pair of Select Board seats with 2,334 ballots cast in favor of her candidacy. The Reading Center area resident, who moved to town in 1993, edged out popular incumbent Murphy by just 26 votes on her way to becoming the top vote-getter, according to unofficial election results.
Overall, Rose-Gillis victory was earned by gaining substantial support from residents in precincts 4, 5, 6, and 7, while the incumbent swept the towns other four precincts.
Murphy, who was elected last year to the Select Board to finish out the final year of Jackie McCarthys term, cruised to victory for the second Select Board seat by a comfortable 2,308-to-2,085 vote margin over third-place contender and former Community Planning and Development Commission member Anthony DArezzo.
