Recount in close New Bedford Ward 2 council election set. How it works and how to watch.

NEW BEDFORD — The recount of the Ward 2 City Council race won by Scott Pemberton over incumbent Maria Giesta by 17 votes is set for Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the downtown library.

The final tally on Nov. 4 was 453 to 436 in Pemberton’s favor, with 35 ballots recorded as blank votes.

Manuel DeBrito, Election Commission chairman, said both sides will be represented during the recount, which should take two to three hours.

The three election commissioners and DeBrito as commission chair will get involved when ballots are challenged by either side. They will vote on what they think the voter’s intent was.
