Voters head to the polls in Metro Detroit primary elections

Voting headed to the polls Tuesday across Metro Detroit in primary elections slated to shape contests in the fall.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. for voters working to narrow selections to become the next mayor in three cities as well as decide on bond measures in two other communities.

One of the most high-profile races is in Detroit, which has nine candidates competing to succeed Mayor Mike Duggan. The Democrat is not pursuing reelection and as an independent for state governor.
