McGuinness to face Williams in Pontiac mayor's race. Novi bond plan approved
Pontiac's City Council president and a former longtime City Councilman will go head-to-head to become the city's next mayor this fall, after Tuesday's primary election.
Council President Mike McGuinness got 44.7% of the vote while former Councilman Kermit Williams had 25%. McGuinness and Williams are vying succeed Mayor Tim Greimel, who is running for Congress in the 10th District in parts of Oakland and Macomb counties.
The Pontiac mayoral primary was one of several issues on the ballot across Oakland County. Southfield voters also narrowed the field for mayor. Novi voters approved a $120 million bond proposal to update public safety facilities, according to unofficial results.
McGuinness has served on city council for four years, where he's been president since 2022. He also served five years on the Pontiac City school board and is chair of the Oakland County Historical Society.
