New Baltimore mayor faces council challenger in fall. Clinton Twp. millage passes
New Baltimore Mayor Tom Semaan will face City Council member Ryan Covert in the November election, according to Macomb County's unoffocial results Tuesday night, while Sterling Heights residents solidified their line-up of City Council candidates for the fall election.
Semaan, 65, got 52.3% of the vote to 33.1% for Covert, 34, who said he wants to create an oversight committee to review the city's expenses. Anchor Bay School District Board of Education President Patrick Green trailed at 14.4%.
Semaan, 65, was first elected mayor in 2021 and was re-elected in 2023. He previously served on New Baltimore City Council from 1987 to 1991. He is the director of business development for a company named Michigan Case Management.
As mayor, Semaan said he helped a historic building in downtown New Baltimore land a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and helped obtain grants for the city's waterfront project.
