Saginaw City Council member sentenced to probation for election forgery

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Saginaw City Council member Monique Lamar-Silvia, 64, was sentenced to one year of probation and 140 hours of community service for forging signatures on a petition to get a candidate on the City Council ballot for 2024.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel made the announcement Monday. Silvia and former candidate Eric Eggleston, 53, were convicted in June of forging signatures on a nominating petition in an attempt to place Eggleston on last year’s ballot for City Council.

As a result of her convictions, the Saginaw City Council voted unanimously to vacate Lamar-Silvia’s seat.

Lamar-Silvia was convicted of conspiracy to do a legal act in an illegal manner, election law forgery, signing a nominating petition with a name other than her own, and signing a nominating petition with multiple names.
