Detroit mayoral candidates Sheffield (D) raised $1.2M, Kinloch (D) $138K in final months of race
Detroit Detroit mayoral candidate Mary Sheffield has turned her financial edge against her opponent, the Rev. Solomon Kinloch Jr., into a chasm, with Sheffield raising $1.2 million against Kinloch's $138,000, according to the latest campaign finance statements.
The two are vying to succeed Mayor Mike Duggan in the Nov. 4 general election. With just days to go before voters head to the polls, though early voting has already started, Sheffield has $672,000 to fund her campaign while Kinloch has $106,000, according to the campaign contribution filings turned in Friday.
The News is rounding off the numbers. In the latest round of donations, Kinloch also loaned his campaigned $50,000.
Sheffield, now president of the Detroit City Council, has led Kinloch in political donations throughout the race, but her ability to raise funds increased dramatically from the last three months, from Aug. 26 to Oct. 19, compared to Kinloch, the filings show. In the previous campaign filing that covered between July 12 and Aug. 25, Sheffield raised nearly $206,000 to Kinloch's $116,000.
