Auburn Hills councilor-elect died 'shortly after the polls closed,' city says
Auburn Hills An Auburn Hills city councilman-elect who served almost three decades on the city's planning commission died Tuesday shortly after his election, city officials said Thursday.
Greg Ouellette, who won the fourth-most votes in a field of six candidates to make it onto council, died "shortly after the polls closed," according to a city news release. Four spots were open on the council, and Ouelette got 15% of the vote, joining Eugene Hawkins III (20.8%), Jack D. Ferguson (20.6%) and Ron Moniz (19.7%), according to the Oakland County clerk's unofficial results.
City council members will soon announce how a new councilor will be selected following Ouellette's death, according to the release.
Before his election, Ouellette served nearly 28 years on the city's planning commission, including more than 16 as its chairman. City Manager Tom Tanghe said Ouellette helped guide some of the city's most complex developments.
