The U.S. Senate race was expected to be the highest stakes decision for DFL delegates in Rochester this weekend. Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagans campaign said in a Wednesday afternoon release that campaign data showed Flanagan was supported by at least 75% of delegates, with 11% supporting Craig.
Despite four months of organizing, campaigning, and nearly $3 million in outside spending backed by Chevron and United Health Group attempting to influence delegates, DFLers overwhelmingly consolidated behind Peggy Flanagan because theyre hungry for a leader who will stand up to corporate power, not bend to Republicans, and fight unapologetically for working people, Flanagan campaign spokesperson Lexi Byler said Wednesday.
The race between Craig and Flanagan has posed a broader question on whether the DFL will choose to support a more moderate or progressive candidate. Craigs campaign cited Democrats who she doesnt believe have the time to attend something like a state convention as part of her reasoning for withdrawing from the process.

(131,367 posts)She can still bypass the convention and run in the primary election, which is on August 11. Tim Walz won his first election without the party's endorsement.

But Craig, like Klobuchar, has a history of appealing to rural voters who may not have any idea about the opponent.
I am going to send additional donation to Craig.

(131,367 posts)I'd certainly vote for her in the general vs. any of the troglodytes the GOP might put up, but she voted for the odious Laken Riley Act, which allowed ICE to arrest and deport immigrants for nonviolent crimes, and for a resolution that expressed appreciation to ICE personnel (and she's been running away from those votes ever since). She was the only Democrat in Minnesotas delegation to support the resolution. She has also received contributions from AIPAC.
Peggy Flanagan doesn't have that kind of baggage, and she's been endorsed by, among others, Elizabeth Warren, Ed Markey, Tina Smith, Bernie Sanders, Chris Murphy, Pramila Jayapal, Ilhan Omar, Rho Khanna, Jeff Merkley, Chris Van Hollen, Keith Ellison and Al Franken.
