NE-LD31: Southwest Omaha Legislative District 31 race features Sen. Kathleen Kauth (R), Mary Ann Folchert (D)

OMAHA — A legislative race in southwest Omaha, including the Millard area, features an incumbent looking to tackle more “big, difficult topics” and a challenger who wants to take her educational and relationship skills to the Legislature.

State Sen. Kathleen Kauth, 54, is seeking reelection to the Legislative District 31 seat. Gov. Pete Ricketts first appointed Kauth to the seat in June 2022 to succeed State Sen. Rich Pahls, after his death in April 2022, for the remainder of the calendar year.

Kauth, the owner and president of an independent mediation and consulting firm, won election to the final two years of Pahls’ term in a special election in November 2022.

Her opponent, Mary Ann Folchert, 50, taught in Westside Community Schools until resigning to become guardian to her older brother, who has intellectual and developmental disabilities.
