'Focus on the basics': John Ewing Jr. (D) outlines plan if elected Omaha's mayor

OMAHA, Neb. — Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr. is clear about his top two priorities for Omaha: police staffing and Omaha's streets.

"We hear about the streets and the money that's been spent, but then people drive on the streets," he said. "That's the number one complaint I get is that our streets are in horrible condition."

Omaha voters recently re-authorized $200 million in bonds for street construction, which first passed in 2021.

Ewing wants a more strategic and equitable road construction and repair plan, and to use and examine materials that could be more suitable for Nebraska's climate.
