Scheer: Nebraska legislators won't get free meals from lobbyists during debates this session
LINCOLN — Lobbyists won’t provide Nebraska lawmakers free meals at the State Capitol later this session, the legislative speaker announced Thursday.
Lobbyists have traditionally picked up catering bills during late-night debates.
But Speaker of the Legislature Jim Scheer of Norfolk said his office will coordinate food provided to senators, and suggested lawmakers help pay for the meals.
State Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha introduced a bill this year to end meals and drinks paid for by lobbyists and served to senators in the Capitol during the session.
