Over 916,000 votes for next weeks' N.J. general election

A total of 916,383 votes have been cast in the New Jersey general election, bringing the statewide voter turnout so far to 14% — or 15% when roughly 470,000 inactive voters are excluded from the calculation — according to an analysis by VoteHub.

VoteHub reports that 382,458 voters cast in-person machine ballots during the first four days of New Jersey’s nine-day early voting period. That universe is 41% Democratic, 39% Republican, and 20% unaffiliated and independent.

A total of 533,180 vote-by-mail ballots have already been returned; that’s 57% of all ballots mailed by county clerks already in the bank. Of those, 333,239 (62.64% are from Democrats, 112,049 (21%) from Republicans, and 88,644 (16.6%) from unaffiliated or independent voters

Of the 937,837 mail-in ballots sent out by county clerks for the November 4 general election, 57% came from Democrats, 20% from Republicans, and 23% from unaffiliated or independent voters. The return rates are relatively even between the two major parties: 62.4% from Democrats, 60.6% from Republicans, and 40.6% from unaffiliateds and independents.
