Malik Evans wins Democratic primary for Rochester mayor
Rochester, N.Y. Incumbent Malik Evans has won the Democratic primary for Rochester mayor, defeating City Councilmember Mary Lupien and businessman Shashi Sinha.
Evans secured 7,601 votes (57%), with Lupien receiving 4,431 votes (33%) and Sinha earning 1,329 votes (10%). His victory puts him in a strong position to secure a second four-year term.
This victory belongs to the people of Rochester, Evans said. Over the last four years, weve made real progress together, and Im grateful for the opportunity to continue building a safer, stronger, more vibrant Rochester.
"For every little kid who might have had big ears, a little bit of an overbite, this one came from the south side of Rochester," Evans continued. "But there are others that might be on the west side, east side, on your side, wherever you came from, this race was important, because I wanted them to know that they too could aspire to one day to be the mayor of Rochester, if they so decided."
