SPOTLIGHT RACE: Michael Cashman.for NY-AD115 (special election)

Raised in a working-class family, Michael grew up understanding the power of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of service to others. When he moved to the North Country to attend SUNY Plattsburgh, he found more than just a college town he fell in love twice. First with his wife, Olivia, and then with the region itself. The welcoming spirit, strong family values, and close-knit community inspired them to build their life here and lay down lasting roots.

Guided by these values, Michael has dedicated decades to making the North Country a stronger, more connected place. As a student, he took on leadership roles that encouraged connection and service, including founding the Adirondack Young Professionals (ADKYP) and helping to launch the United Way’s Annual Day of Caring. These early experiences fueled a lifelong passion for community building that shines through in his public service work today.

Michael has also devoted significant time to honoring and supporting veterans, a cause close to his heart. Working alongside the North Country Honor Flight program and partnering with the Clinton County American Legion on the Battlefield Memorial Gateway project, he helps ensure the sacrifices of service members are never forgotten. His grandfather’s military service is a constant source of pride and inspiration in his life and leadership.

Beyond his local work, Michael serves as Chair of the New York State Commission on National and Community Service and as a member of the Plattsburgh University Council. Through these roles, he continues to champion civic engagement and community building across the state always driven by the same spirit of service and connection that brought him to the North Country years ago.
