Cuomo faces criticism for canceling event at Park Slope synagogue.

In the final weeks of the New York City mayor’s race, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo has courted Jewish voters and argued that his rival, Zohran Mamdani, does not have their best interests at heart.

So it was notable when Mr. Cuomo canceled a town hall at a liberal Reform synagogue in Park Slope on Tuesday, missing an opportunity to speak to Jewish voters after Mr. Mamdani had appeared there earlier this month.

The synagogue, Congregation Beth Elohim, sent an email saying that Mr. Cuomo had canceled the event at 2 p.m., just hours before it was set to take place.

Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Mr. Cuomo, said that the governor had a scheduling conflict. He declined to say what it was. “We are incredibly sorry, and we would like to reschedule,” he said.
