DeWitt Town Supervisor race heats up as election day nears

DEWITT, N.Y. — As early voting comes to a close this weekend, the race for DeWitt town supervisor is intensifying with Democrat Max Ruckdeschel and Republican Richard Kunz vying for the position. Incumbent Ed Michalenko is not seeking reelection, leaving the seat open during a transformative period for DeWitt.

Key issues include the redevelopment of Shopping Town Mall, the expansion of the DeWitt Fire Department, and the I-81 project. Ruckdeschel, a current town councilor, expressed frustration over the Shoppingtown redevelopment, saying,

"I am definitely frustrated by it, but unfortunately, it is one of the things that we can be frustrated all day and it’s not going to change anything." Kunz, a former Coast Guard member and firefighter, criticized the current town leadership, stating,

"Don’t even get me started on that... It’s because the Town of DeWitt Supervisor is arrogant and he does not communicate or work with the county."
