Voters received flyers with wrong dates

Some Wilson County residents woke up this week to a flyer in their front door from an independent organization with a list of important dates for this year’s election cycle. None of the dates, however, line up with the dates for Wilson County’s municipal elections.

“Those dates are for those races that are partisan,” Wilson County Board of Elections Director Tasha Bell said. “It does not apply to Wilson County.”

Wilson’s municipal elections are non-partisan races, meaning candidates are not recognized by political party affiliation for voting.

Bell said that for Wilson County, early voting will begin Oct. 16 and will run through Nov. 1. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekday throughout the early voting period. Saturday, Nov. 1, the weekend of the North Carolina Whirligig Festival, polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday is the only weekend date polls will be open during early voting, Bell said.
