North Carolina is the 9th largest by population. Bigger than Michigan, New Jersey & Virginia.

Not to mention Washington and Arizona. Just a few less people than Georgia.

More of NC's population is urban or suburban rather than down on the farm. A significant proportion of those recently moving there are retired who don't want the weather or the high cost of living found in Florida.
