Recall of Umatilla mayor moves to verification stage
UMATILLA — The Umatilla County Elections Office is now verifying signatures in the city of Umatilla’s recall petition against Mayor Caden Sipe.
The petition, which requires 163 verified signatures to move forward, had 195 unverified names when it was turned in to the city. Nanci Sandoval, the city recorder, said Wednesday, Oct. 15, she had forwarded all materials to the county.
Umatilla County elections and records supervisor Stephen Craigen said signature verification on the 195 submitted petition signatures is ongoing and should be finished sometime during the week of Oct. 20.
“Right now, just preliminary, (we’ve had) 28 rejected,” Craigen said.
