Related: About this forumHi ya'll! I moved from NJ to Conway in April of this year..
I had posted earlier this year of my intention to move, and I finally made it. I'm a senior citizen and I had to facilitate my entire move by myself. It took a lot out of me both mentally and physically. There were two months when my mind was so fried, I did something stupid every single day. Physically, my back is in bad shape. It was bad before the move and it's worse now. I'm doing PT a couple of days a week. Because of my back issues I'm not able to get around well enough to really enjoy my new surroundings. I've only been to Myrtle Beach once. I will probably go again in the near future.
However! I'm really looking forward to getting to know this area better and if anybody has any suggestions for activities I might enjoy please let me know.

(93,451 posts)I can however welcome you back! It's good to see you, Kahuna and congrats on your move.
When you get your back issues under control you will be free to explore your new surroundings.

(495 posts)The outer banks from Corolla to Ocracoke are stunning, with the added bonus of wild horses. The horses on the banks are descendants of the horses brought to America by the conquistadors.
Myrtle Beach, for me, is a shit show of crass tourism and tacky trinkets. The outer Banks are largely unspoiled beaches and dunes where the wild horses roam. You can drive on the beach there but be careful as the sugar sand can have you there longer than planned!
Happy exploring!!

I also second your opinion of the Outer Banks.

If you're a senior, look into the homesteader tax deduction on your property taxes.

(11,836 posts)Conway, Horry Co, SC. I served on jury duty there once. Convicted the SOB too! I know a place you can go. Try looking for Socastee Library. I think you will like it. To give you an idea of the time period I lived there, I & others crowded around a computer in the Myrtle Beach Library watching the verdict of the O.J. Simpson Trial. Me? I'd rather live in NJ. Please take care of your back!

(27,365 posts)The housing costs are outrageous and I'm too old to be shoveling snow. So here I am. I do have family here so that was a deciding factor.

(32,749 posts)I grew up in NJ, moved when I was 14 to California. Finally returned to the East Coast in 2000 when I moved with my late husband and two sons to Chapel Hill, NC. Life happens, and I made what I hope was my last move four years ago--all on my own--two months before I turned 70. Whew!
I've found over the years the best thing for my back was walking! Do lots of it! Do you like dogs? Do you have one?!If you do, there will be lots of dog walking opportunities where you are. If you don't have a dog, do like them, but don't want the responsibility of your own, see if your local animal shelter has a volunteer program for dog walkers.
Enjoy your new home!
