Second mayoral election in two years features repeat challengers

VICTORIA, Texas - Victoria voters will have a few important elections on the May 3 ballot, including the 2025 mayoral election. Incumbent Mayor Duane Crocker runs for reelection, facing repeat challenger Jacob Sauseda.

Both candidates ran in last year's Special Election. Victoria residents selected who would finish a term left by Jeff Bauknight's resignation to run for state office. Bauknight was elected to finish a term left by the late Mayor Rowley McCoy.

Crocker won the 2024 election with over 60 percent of the vote. Sauseda is returning as a challenger after finishing outside of the top three.

Since his election, Crocker has focused on moving city initiatives forward. Pursuing a transfer of University of Houston-Victoria to the Texas A&M system bore fruit after the Texas legislature passed a measure to confirm the transfer.
