Charlotte Moses will become Port Arthur's next mayor following runoff election

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Charlotte Moses has won the runoff election to become the next mayor of Port Arthur.

Moses won with 1,520 votes, or 56.09% of the vote, while Lewis Jr. received 1,190 votes, or 43.91% of the vote, in the June 7 runoff election, following a race where no candidate secured the majority needed to win outright in the initial election.

The race narrowed to two candidates: Moses, a real estate agent and former at-large city council member, and Lewis Jr., a businessman, U.S. Army veteran, and former firefighter.

Moses and Lewis told 12News they were focused on infrastructure improvements and economic growth as they worked to win over voters ahead of the runoff.
