(39 posts)Was there yesterday. Empty. It's gotten so expensive. I had a free admission ticket, but would have been $24 to get in. $16 to ride Ferris Wheel. No one person in line, in years past 30 minutes in line to get on. I had a corny dog and beer $19. Took the train, stayed 2 hours then train back home. Not one person in front of me to order food. Usually long lines and crowded midway. The vendors were all stressed as so few people. It was really depressing!

(2,155 posts)Not sure if we will ever win in Texas again, but this economy and immigration fear might be what we need to break free of MAGA.

(39,368 posts)Hot dog: ~$3.08
Beer: ~$6.17
Total (average): ~$9.25 ($3.08 + $6.17)
Factors that affect cost Vendor and size: The price can be higher at certain locations or for larger portion sizes, such as a jumbo hot dog.
The Mets charge more for hot dogs and the average all MLB is 5.67 for a hotdog

Just talked to neighbor, $96 for the 6 of them to ride. They said they spent almost $1,000 last Thursday at the fair. I'm in a very lower middle class diverse neighborhood. She said they would never go again! They hadn't planned on spending that much as the kids got free passes from the school district, but she said once there the 4 kids wanting to play games, rides and food she lost track of how much they had spent. Insane.

(51,197 posts)I can't imagine spending that kind of money for a fair, even if I could afford it.

(4,743 posts)While it could be fun, as a value proposition it clearly fails in tough times. Beyond Fed figures which I now consider unreliable and possibly falsified, if you look at special industry economic indicators like use of cardboard boxes, shipping company profits, alcohol sales, movie and restaurant attendance, hiring....everything is down and trending further down. And oil prices are at $58 per barrel for West Texas crude, with the break even point at $61 a barrel for large producers and even higher for smaller outfits, money must be tight. So the state that runs on oil revenue is running short and that has to already be rippling thru the state.

(6,321 posts)Zero sympathy for all the sh7t going down in Florida and Texas. I do feel bad for people stuck there. Hopefully, the current christo-fascists in charge of both states will be thrown the f6ck out. If only the electorate as a whole used their collective brains. Rant over

(14,717 posts)Similar story about high prices. Fees on top of parking fees. A charge on your credit card if you OPEN the room refrigerator and don't take anything else.
The payback rate on slot machines went from the 90's to mid 80's. Service fees on top of ordering anything from a hot dog to a steak dinner.
Extra service fees for service without any service can run a $100 or so per day, per visitor to the city.
the idea is, suck as much $$$ as you can out of the rubes.

(168,180 posts)the parking lot wasn't as full when I got there but attendance seemed to pick up later in the day
I have to say though, it's gotten quite pricey.
edited to add: I really enjoyed Village People, they put on a great show

(64,684 posts)that's the first weekend. and the first weekend is notoriously slow. this coming weekend, being the last weekend, is the one what draws all the people.
if it's slow this weekend, then they are in trouble, until then, I will reserve my judgment
