SAN ANTONIO – Meals on Wheels San Antonio, a nonprofit that delivers meals to homebound residents in the San Antonio area, announced it will suspend meal delivery services for hundreds of clients starting the week of Nov. 3.

The suspension follows a “significant funding reduction” from the Alamo Area Council of Governments, the nonprofit said in a news release.

“This is one of the most difficult decisions we’ve ever had to make,” said Vinsen Faris, CEO of Meals on Wheels San Antonio. “We know how much these meals and visits mean to our clients — they provide nourishment, companionship, and safety
AniMeals, a companion pet food service that several clients depend on, will also be affected by the suspension, Meals on Wheels San Antonio said.

Texas as a state voted for Trump. Why any true blue Democrat would voluntarily live in Texas escapes me.

I'm in New Mexico, the bluest of blue states. It's why I moved here from Kansas some 15 years ago.

That's why I stay. I'd think my convictions weak if I acquiesced and retreated elsewhere.

- warts and all.

Texas is not one big homogenized red state. We have bat shit crazy lefties, fascist righties and everyone in between including moderate Republicans and conservative Democrats.

Do I like the political decisions my family and neighbors make? No I do not. I cannot for the life of me understand why so many vote against their own self interests but that is their right.

I travel the back roads of this beautiful state a lot. I see the dying towns. Towns that lack schools, grocery stores and gas stations. Towns where more than 50% of the population are widows over the age of 65. I also see dying towns where no Democrat before Beto had ever visited to talk to Texans about their vision for the future. I see uncontested races by the dozens in this state. I see young Republican candidates for school boards, county commissioners, mayors, etc. but very few Democrats.

I see FAFO moments happening in my own family. You know what each of them says? “I never thought this would happen to me.”

No place is perfect - including New Mexico. All we can do is listen more, work harder, and pray - a lot.

Love and light

New Mexico is far, far from perfect.

I moved here in 2008 when I was divorcing. While this state is, as already said, far from perfect, moving here was the perfect choice for me. I'd looked at other parts of the country, including the east coast and the Pacific northwest. I like to say that Santa Fe kept calling my name.

I also often say that we live in a wonderful country with fifty wonderful states. So what if there are some states you couldn't pay me to live in. You'd say the same thing about different states.

Sometimes I question my own sanity and my beliefs.

Other times I stand there with my mouth hanging open at the abject stupidity.
